EL GALLO TAQUERIA

IN 1997, MINERVA DE TORRES AND HERMINIO TORRES SR., TWO MEXICAN IMMIGRANTS, TOOK OVER A CORNER SPACE IN SOUTH BROOKLYN TO CONTINUE THEIR DREAM. THE MOM & POP OF FOUR HAD ALREADY FOUND HARD-FOUGHT SUCCESS OPENING THE BODEGA NEXT DOOR. EL CHARRITO GROCERY, AND THEN, EL CHARRITO RESTAURANT BECAME NEIGHBORHOOD STAPLES. THEY WERE MEXICAN PIONEERS IN A NEIGHBORHOOD GRACED BY ONLY THE BEST ITALIAN SHOPS & RESTAURANTS (L&B SPUMONI GARDENS, ANYONE?). AFTER A LONG RUN, THEY DECIDED TO SELL THE JOINT IN 2003 AND MOVE ON TO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. 

IN 2017, TWENTY YEARS LATER, 2 OF THEIR KIDS, ALEJANDRO TORRES AND HERMINIO TORRES JR. COME BACK TO THE SAME SPOT TO BRING THE NEIGHBORHOOD SOME OF THE BEST MEXICAN FOOD AROUND. WELCOME TO A NEW ERA OF MEXICAN FOOD IN SOUTH BROOKLYN. WELCOME TO EL GALLO TAQUERIA.
